DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES & PSYCHOLOGY

Today the modern medicine is based on training doctors to be an effective communicator and ethical practitioner. There is a strong evidence to link biological behavioural, psychological and social variables to health, illness and disease. There is a general accord that a simple disease based model of clinical practice is inadequate and that there is need to change the approach of doctors to include a better understanding of the patients, their family and community. Emphasis is given to the prevention of illness and promotion of health as an adjunct to treatment of disease. Behavioural Sciences is an integral component of medical training and its course consists of six domains.
•Communication Skills
•Human Development and Neuroscience
•Psychosocial influence in health care
•Psychosocial aspects of physical & mental illness.
•Medical ethics
•Psycho-pathology & mental health care
