At Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences (QIMS), World Thalassemia Day celebrations are a poignant blend of education, support, and solidarity. QIMS Blood Donor Society headed by Prof Dr Luqman Butt (HoD Pathology) celebrate Thalassemia Day every year through informative banners / pan flexes, engaging information’s, awareness walk for deeper understanding of the condition’s impact and the importance of preventive measures.
An awareness walk was organized by QIMS Blood Donor Society on 09 May 2024, to commemorate the International Thalassemia Day 2024 at QIMS. Principal, Vice Principal, Directors, Head of Depts, Senior / Junior Faculty and Admin staff and a large number of students of QIMS participated.
Speaking at the occasion, Principal QIMS Prof Dr Zafar H. Tanveer said that the purpose of celebrating the day is to create awareness among people about Thalassemia. He said that the only viable solution to deal with inherited disease like thalassemia is work on its prevention. He appreciated the role of QIMS Blood Donor Society for arranging Walk and awareness. He also praised Prof Dr Luqman Butt (HoD Pathology) for working tirelessly for passing an act on pre marriage thalassemia test in Balochistan.
