Forensic Medicine is a fascinating field of endeavor, arguably, the most exciting, dynamic & constantly changing area of medical specialization. It combines two of the world’s oldest and noblest professions, law and medicine. Forensic Medicine covers the medico-legal aspects of health, crimes of violence such as homicide and suicide, accidents, firearm injuries, explosions, vehicular injuries and infanticide. The course also includes problems of sexual assaults, medico-legal aspects of pregnancy, abortion, impotency etc. Students study the medico-legal system of the country, duties and responsibilities of doctors. Medical aspects of law in relation to poisons, their recognition, treatment and collection of viscera/specimens and their analytic methods are also taught.
